What is Serving with CARE?

Serving with Commitment to Alcohol Responsibility & Excellence (Serving with CARE) is a voluntary initiative for hospitality venues to demonstrate leadership in responsible alcohol service. It is based on a simple set of principles that reflect good practice across staff training, guest care, and community engagement. Participation is free, does not replace legal requirements, and is designed to celebrate hospitality businesses for their commitment to alcohol responsibility.

The Origins of Serving with CARE

Hospitality plays a critical role in shaping responsible alcohol consumption, with frontline staff directly influencing guest behavior. Since 2023, Responsibility.org has engaged and consulted the hospitality sector to understand both the challenges and the opportunity. These consultations highlighted a need for practical guidance, leadership support, and visible recognition for venues that lead the way in responsible alcohol service. Serving with CARE was created to respond to this need with a set of clear, voluntary principles that any venue can commit to, at no cost.

About Responsibility.org

Serving with CARE is developed by Responsibility.org, an independent not-for-profit organization funded by companies in the beverage alcohol industry and partners in retail, distribution, technology and other sectors. Taking an evidence-based and partnership-led approach, Responsibility.org focuses on three core missions:

  1. Eliminate underage drinking
  2. Eliminate drunk driving and work with others to end all impaired driving
  3. Empower adults to make a lifetime of responsible alcohol choices
